So after two months we find ourselves in Bora Bora.  This is the last island we plan to visit in the Society Islands of French Polynesia...

Bora Bora is perhaps the most popular tourist destination in French Polynesia.  The water is blue and the lagoons are world famous for their beauty.  That said, we have been moored in front of the local yacht club for a few days getting some much needed repairs done on the boat before we head off to Tonga (1000 miles) then New Zealand (1000 miles).  In a few days we plan to get out of the harbour and explore some of this famous beauty....
Bora Bora!

Before arriving here, we spent another week in Raiatea and did some more exploring. Our friends Bruce & Kerry from s/v Haven rented a car and invited us to tour the island with them.

We visited the most sacred traditional religious place in ALL of Polynesia. The Marae Taputapuatea is located near the south east corner of Raiatea.  The ruins have existed here for 1000's of years.  The local university is involved with the restoration and preservation of this very important Polynesian temple grounds.

It is said that it was from here Polynesian explorers left to discover places as far away as Hawaii.  It is also the home of traditional human sacrifices.  We are glad they served up their last human sacrifice some 75 years ago....

We continued around the island and enjoyed a wonderful picnic lunch by the sea...

Before we left Raiatea we attended one more Hevia.  This time we were entertained by some incredibly talented children and some amazing older women who danced and sang as only Polynesians can...

Such beautiful people!

Today I repaired the generator, I repaired the raw water pump, and I attempted to fix the watermaker pump.  It looks like I will have to re-build the watermaker pump... Another day for that job... We are now off to visit some more friends on s/v Starry Horizons...  More soon!
